Mirror, mirror on the wall

We’ve already chatted about this before about the difficult and exhausting pursuit of paintings that decorate our homes.

The dilemma of choosing the perfect picture that will fit exactly in the living room, that will correspond with the design style of the home and that will be affordable for all, is not an easy task whatsoever.

In the past, I told you, in this section, about the option of a framed wall and a host of other examples that replace the picture and the element with the design touch that adds interest to the space, but we did not talk about mirrors!

Not many years ago, mirrors were used more for their basic purpose. A mirror in the house was a practical accessory that was placed in a bathroom, bedroom, or a body mirror. Nowadays, mirrors have entered the public sphere and have a respected role in the design of the home space. Hanging the right mirror, in the right place, can upgrade the home wonderfully.

Today, as you may have noticed, mirrors are used as a design accessory for everything and can be found as such in designer homes, cafes, restaurants, and more.

The mirror creates an optical illusion: it doubles the light and space, thus giving us a feeling of a larger space. Using mirrors greatly enriches the space and by choosing a colorful frame, you can give the design tone to the space you want.

There are places in the house where a mirror is chosen to create atmosphere and there are places in the house where there is a practical need for a mirror. In any case, the mirror you choose will have aesthetic value that will enrich the design of the house.

If the style is rustic, go for a rich bronze-tone frame. If your house is decorated in a modern style, go for straighter lines.

So where should you hang a mirror and what size should it be?

In order to get the desired effect and atmosphere, we must consider the location and dimensions of the mirror. The size of the mirror should be proportional to the space and match the dimensions of the furniture next to which it is hung. At the house’s entrance, I recommend putting up a mirror above a decorative chest of drawers/console table, as part of the entryway decoration.

In the living room, it is worth hanging a horizontal rectangular mirror parallel to the long side of the dining table. It is important that the mirror does not extend beyond the sides of the furniture above which it is hung.

In my designs, you can see the mirror placed above the sofa in the living room, the size of the mirror should correspond to the length of the sofa.

To enrich the wall, you can paint it a special shade and place two wall lamps next to the mirror, and here you have easily created a feast for the eyes, and along the way you can peek at the mirror whenever you can.

Another place where I incorporate a mirror is above the dining area. As in the living room, here too the mirror should correspond to the length of the table and the mirror’s frame should be proportional to its size. A mirror with a frame without presence will not give the space the desired effect.

And of course, we will not forget the wall where the console stands. This wall is usually located in the area next to the entrance door, so the mirror above it will give it a classic look. Before you leave the house, you can always take a look and make final adjustments.

The mirror does not have to be in the same style as the console, and here you can add your own design touch by choosing the color of the mirror or its shape.

After we have decided where we will place the mirrors, it is recommended to invest time in finding the right mirror.

There are many different options on the market for mirrors in different shapes and interesting frames: frames with antique-style gilded wood moldings, mirrors whose frames are made of wood, modern frames, and more. You can combine several mirrors and hang them next to each other in an interesting composition, or choose a mirror that consists of a combination of small mirrors in different shapes. The choice is of course based on the overall look you want to give your home, your taste, and your budget.

In conclusion, Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest on the wall?
