A kitchen is often the heart of the home, where family members spend a lot of time, cooking and sitting together for family meals, having heart-to-heart conversations at the kitchen counter, and even doing homework in the kitchen.
Choosing a kitchen wall covering is an important part of the kitchen’s design appearance.
Kitchen covering can significantly boost the appearance of the kitchen and easily add life and interest to the existing kitchen.
Although it is commonly thought that it plays a design role only, it also contributes in the practical aspect of protecting against dirt resulting from work and cooking.
There are many types of coverings, for every type of kitchen and occupant we can find a suitable covering.
The most common covering is ceramic/porcelain granite wall covering.
The most common and practical. Ceramics are characterized by a high abrasion coefficient and therefore will maintain durability over time. You can find a variety of complex and very interesting examples of ceramics that add interest to the kitchen. Today, any covering is suitable for the kitchen, you will not see a separation between the kitchen tiles and the other tiles in showrooms. Today, everything goes and there is no particular set of rules that you should follow! If we used to choose small 15/15 tiles, we can combine larger 30/60 tiles and even larger than that. Hexagonal tiles, interesting tiles in different shapes and different sizes. If in the past we chose tiles in a cream/white shade, today you will see more and more kitchens with colorful tiles of different sizes, with a variety of textures that upgrade the entire appearance of the kitchen.
Of course there is always the clean line in the kitchen
Those who want to maintain a clean line and get a high-tech look will be more attracted to glass covering.
The innovation in this field is the technology that allows walls to be covered with large glass units, uniform in color and a wide variety of patterns and creative design applications.
Some people are attracted to the beauty of glass, to the luxurious and elegant effect. Using glass covering in the kitchen allows you to renew the old kitchen with glass covering without the need for renovation and unnecessary dirt.
The ability to produce large-sized tiles with glass allows for a look with clean lines and the ability to maintain, in a very easy way, the cleaning of the kitchen.
Despite all the pros that glass covering has, I personally prefer to bring warmth into the kitchen by covering it with tiles of different sizes and colors and forgo the uniform look that glass covering produces, but this is only my opinion and as I said, there are many types of covering, for every character of kitchen and residents we can find a suitable covering.
Of course, there are a variety of other coverings that can be used in the kitchen, such as using natural stone for a particularly rustic look, a cheap solution, painting the wall with an oil paint that can be cleaned, Corian covering, and the classic and simple solution of raising the countertop a few centimeters higher. If you’ve had time to get to know me, you’ve probably noticed that I tend to choose interesting tiles that add interest to the kitchen and break up the routine.
The time to decide on the type and shade of the covering
Leave the wall covering for last, except in rare cases you can add the covering after the rest of the kitchen is finished. This will make it easier for you to match your preferred covering. Postponing the covering will not prevent you from starting work on the kitchen, so if there is serious hesitation, do not feel pressured.
Choosing the right covering will increase or decrease our feeling in the kitchen. Dark shades in large tiles reduce, while light and small ones increase. Shiny coverings such as glass will contribute to a more spacious feeling in the kitchen.
Proper planning of the covering’s height
The height of the marble covering ranges from 40 – 60 cm. Today, there are also those who choose large tiles and cover even up to the ceiling on one wall.
Of course, we need a high covering in the stove area because this is an area that tends to get dirty and be very active in the wall area. Therefore, place the covering at a height of 50 – 60 cm. In the other areas of the kitchen, you can make do with a height of 10 – 15 cm.
I wish you success and that you choose the covering that best suits the character of the kitchen and, of course, your character.
